GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO) is a company that creates mobile cameras that record HD video. The cameras are widely used by sportsmen in extreme action video photography. The camera’s are also used for professional movie and documentary making. The cameras are known for being small, lightweight and waterproof. Therefore they are ideal to use in extreme sports.
GoPro Inc Net Worth: $2.2 Billion
The company was established in 2004 by Nick Woodman who was inspired by the idea of a mobile camera that would be able to be used in extreme conditions when he was on a surf trip in Australia. Woodman wanted to capture his actions in the water but soon found out that amateur photographers couldn’t come close enough to the surfing action. He was then inspired to create a professional low cost mobile camera that people could use to create professional videos with from different angles. This inspired the GoPro name.
GoPro’s first camera was sold, which was a 35 MM film version. Later GoPro’s recored digital video with a 3 megapixel camera. This has evolved to the point that the cameras are now at. You can even link up 2 GoPro’s together to create 3D videos.
Lately the company has been suffering from a decline in revenue because mobile phones are now waterproof and have an even better camera quality as the small GoPro’s. The need for such a camera is declining, and taking the company down with it.
